Our favorite varieties of rice

  1. An Italian short-grain, Arborio Rice:  is large, bold, and marked with a unique white dot in the center. This species of rice is often used for risotto since it can absorb liquid and flavor when cooked slowly. The result is an unmatched creamy texture with a sweet chewy core. It is famed for holding its shape very well and as a result, is suited to making fried rice balls.
  2. Basmati Rice: Basmati rice has its origin in India and Pakistan. It is a long-grain rice and is an extremely fragrant variety of rice. It gets its robust flavor from an ageing process. It is aged for about one year after harvesting. It is simply served with curry to pronounce the grain’s natural aroma. You can also incorporate favorite vegetables and warm spices into the rice.
  3. Black Rice: the black rice is also known as “forbidden rice” or the Emperor’s rice. Rich in nutrients, this gorgeous and flavorful medium-grain rice is frequently used in Asian cuisine. Try stirring it into a mushroom sauté accented with fragrant cilantro. You can also blend it with brown rice to make a sweet coconut rice pudding. This rice was exclusively for emperors in China, and the color is as a result of its high level of anthocyanin.
  4. Jasmine Rice: Jasmine Rice originated from Thailand; it has a floral aroma. It is long-grain rice that cooks up soft and slightly sticky. Jasmine rice is the perfect choice for dinner.
  5. Brown Rice: finally we have brown rice which comes in short or long-grain varieties. It has been milled to remove the outer husk but retains its bran layer, which is chock-full of nutrients. Cooked brown rice boasts a subtly chewy texture and nutty flavor. It also has extra healthy GABA properties.
