Low calorie filipino halibut rice recipe substitutions

To make this Filipino-style Halibut Rice recipe lower in calories, some substitutions can be made. Instead of using jasmine rice, use brown rice or cauliflower rice as a healthier and low-calorie alternative. Use cooking spray or low-fat oil and less of it to sear the halibut. Instead of using regular vegetable oil, substitute with olive oil or coconut oil as they are better for you and contain fewer calories. Replace the halibut with a low-fat, white fish such as tilapia or cod. Use low-sodium soy sauce or substitute with Tamari, which is a low-sodium and gluten-free alternative. Lastly, instead of garnishing the dish with scallions or cilantro, use fresh herbs like parsley, thyme, or basil which contain fewer calories. These simple substitutions can help to reduce the calorie content of this recipe without compromising the flavor.

What to serve with a filipino halibut rice?

Filipino halibut rice is a delicious and filling dish, but it is always good to have some side dishes to complement it. A fresh green salad with a tangy vinaigrette would provide a refreshing contrast to the rich flavors of the halibut rice. Roasted or fried plantains would be a great sweet and savory side dish. A glass of cold refreshing lemongrass iced tea would also be the perfect drink to serve alongside the meal.

Whats the best sauce for a filipino halibut rice?

When it comes to pairing sauces with Filipino-style halibut rice, there is no shortage of options. However, a popular choice is to serve it with a simple combination of soy sauce, calamansi juice (or lemon juice), and a pinch of sugar. This sauce, often called “sawsawan,” is a classic Filipino condiment that perfectly complements the flavors of the fish and rice. It balances the saltiness of the soy sauce with the tangy citrus notes of the calamansi juice, making for a refreshing and savory accompaniment. For an extra kick of flavor, you can also add chopped chili peppers or garlic to the sauce.

Filipino halibut rice health benefits

Filipino halibut rice can provide several health benefits. Halibut is a good source of protein and is low in saturated fat and calories. It also contains omega-3 fatty acids, which may help to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. The dish also includes vegetables like onions and tomatoes, which provide vitamins and antioxidants. However, the recipe may also include added salt and oil in the cooking process, which can be harmful to health in excess. As an alternative, a healthier recipe could be baked halibut with roasted vegetables, which reduces the need for added oil and salt.
