- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1 head of broccoli, chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cups water
- Salt, to taste
- Wash the basmati rice until the water runs clear and soak it in water for at least 15 minutes. Drain the water and set the rice aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Sauté the onions and garlic until they turn golden brown. This should take about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the chopped broccoli to the pan and stir fry for 2-3 minutes until it is cooked through.
- Next, add all of the spices, rice, and salt to the pan and sauté for 2-3 minutes until everything is well combined and the rice is slightly toasted.
- Add 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Once it’s boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid. Allow the rice to simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until all of the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked through.
- Remove the pan from the heat and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before fluffing up the rice with a fork to separate the grains. Serve hot and enjoy!
