indian mahi-mahi rice ingredients

  • 1 lb Mahi-Mahi fillets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 cups Basmati rice
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)

  1. Rinse the rice in cold water multiple times until the water becomes clear. Then, drain the rice and set it aside.
  2. Take a large skillet and place it over a medium-high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to it.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté them until the onion becomes translucent. It will take approx. 5 minutes.
  4. Add the following spices to the skillet: 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds, 1 teaspoon of turmeric, and 1 teaspoon of paprika. Cook the spices for 2-3 minutes while stirring.
  5. Add 1 pound of Mahi-Mahi fillet pieces to the skillet. Stir the pieces to coat with the spices mixture properly.
  6. Add the Basmati rice that you rinsed previously, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 cups of either chicken or vegetable broth to the skillet.
  7. Bring the contents of the skillet to boil.
  8. Lower the heat to the minimum level, and cover the skillet. Let it cook for 18-20 minutes until the rice becomes tender and absorbs all the liquid in the skillet.
  9. After 18-20 minutes, remove the skillet from the heat source. Let it stand, while covered, for 5 minutes.
  10. Use a fork to fluff the rice and mix it properly. If you want, garnish the dish with cilantro. Your Indian Mahi-Mahi Rice is ready to serve!

Low calorie indian mahi-mahi rice recipe substitutions

To make this Indian Mahi-Mahi Rice recipe lower in calories, some substitutions could be made. One option could be to use brown rice instead of basmati rice, as it is higher in fiber and nutrients and will help keep you feeling full for longer. Additionally, using a low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth would cut down on the amount of salt in the dish. Another option would be to use less oil when sautéing the onion and garlic, or to omit the oil altogether and use a non-stick cooking spray instead. Finally, omitting the optional cilantro garnish could also reduce the calorie count of the dish.

What to serve with a indian mahi-mahi rice?

There are many options to serve with Indian Mahi-Mahi rice depending on personal preferences. Some suggestions could include a side salad of leafy greens with a citrus-based dressing to complement the flavors of the fish, roasted vegetables such as asparagus or broccoli to add some texture, or a side of raita, a yogurt-based condiment commonly served in Indian cuisine, which will help to balance the spiciness of the dish. If you’re looking for something heartier, consider adding some garlic naan to the meal to help soak up all the delicious flavors.

Whats the best sauce for a indian mahi-mahi rice?

The best sauce for Indian Mahi-Mahi rice would be a spicy tomato-based curry sauce commonly known as “tikka masala.” Tikka Masala sauce is rich in warm spices such as coriander, cumin, and turmeric, which help to complement the delicate flavors of the Mahi-Mahi. The spicy tomato flavor of tikka masala also gives the dish a nice tangy kick balanced with the creaminess of coconut milk, making it the perfect accompaniment to the delicate flavors of fish and rice.
